Ethics and the use of AI in Academia

The aim of the presentation was to raise awareness of ethical issues in the use of AI in hospitality education. AI ought to serve as a tool for intellectual engagement, stimulating critical thinking and analytical skills. At the same time, its use must be guided by strong moral and ethical principles.
The discussions were deeply engaging. Key takeaways included the need for greater AI literacy among educators and a more proactive approach to AI integration in academia. The thoughtful contributions highlighted just how vital it is to keep this conversation going.

A Roma, presso il campus dell'ELIS, DESK Hospitality ha partecipato a uno scambio di esperienze tra 20 organizzazioni europee membri di BeDoCare Hub, una rete internazionale di ONG che promuovono progetti a impatto sociale. L'obiettivo era definire una strategia operativa per lo sviluppo sostenibile di centri e programmi di formazione professionale.
Tra i vari temi discussi, è emersa la necessità di un rapporto diretto tra centri di formazione e aziende per creare percorsi formativi adeguati alle reali esigenze del mondo del lavoro. In questo, il consorzio di aziende ELIS è un ottimo esempio di come motivare le aziende a partecipare alla formazione dei giovani.

Monitoring trip to Lebanon

During a follow-up visit to the IMS (Institute of Management and Services), our Managing Director, Barbara Primo, was able to assess the progress of Hospitality-PRO, an initiative aimed at transferring the dual system in the sector of hospitality.
Discussions of the challenges faced by the 27 partner companies and 12 technical schools were held during her field visits. A meeting was held with local experts on vocational education about the development of Hospitality-PRO. Barbara Primo conducted a workshop for IMS team, covering topics such as “The characteristics of the Z generation”, “A Learning Culture” and “Error Management in Communication”.

Enhancing quality apprenticeship systems

This webinar presented practical insights and strategies for building effective, equitable and sustainable apprenticeship systems based on ILO Recommendation 208 on Quality Apprenticeships.
The event provided an overview of the Guide for policy makers on quality apprenticeships, followed by discussions with ILO members and partners on its implementation. Experts from Costa Rica and Ethiopia shared their experiences of implementing Dual VET in their countries.

Mentoring programme

In 2024, a DESK Hospitality online mentoring programme led by Nathalie Gloor, vocational trainer and adult educator, was carried out to strengthen the competences of CEFIM's management and educational team in specific areas of dual vocational training.
During the last meeting on 2 September, the team from the CEFIM Technical Institute presented some of the products they had created for trainees (dual notebook and online form for sending feedback), companies (guidelines for training pathways and regulations for in-company trainings), and teachers (competence evaluation form and follow-up monitoring tools).
